Rethinking Plagiarism: A Multimedia Rise 360 Experience

The Challenge

  • Student Engagement: As students, we would rather complete a program online in our own time than sit in a class listening to a teacher lecture for hours.

  • Systemic Constraints: Truthfully, most educational materials could be posted on a forum like Rise, but the cost and user management for smaller school districts is not sustainable.

  • Prior Limitations: Therefore, I had previously created this program on Canvas as a weeklong activity, including a PowerPoint with notes, a discussion forum for 10-12 students to respond and peer respond, and a traditional mastery quiz.

The Solution

  • Interactive Redesign: I intentionally redesigned this course using Articulate Rise 360 to create a more contemporary, interactive learning experience.

  • Engaging Interface: The goal was to transform standard lecture material into an engaging, self-paced module featuring multimedia integration and a streamlined interface.

  • Adaptable Materials: Because the best lessons do NOT have to be set in stone, I have also provided supplemental lesson items to use for recaps or additions to someone else's lesson.

The Pedagogical Benefits

  • Immediate Mastery Checks: The program delivers information and immediately tests student comprehension, establishing a clear pathway for long-term knowledge retention as learners actively test their knowledge while they navigate the content.

  • Scalable Tracking: In a one-on-one lesson with a student, it would be easy to complete this type of knowledge check, but with multiple students, the online version allows for tracking of student understanding on a larger scale.

  • Differentiated Learning: A learner who struggles with reading might benefit more from the audio recording explaining the content than from a video. Furthermore, teachers can use the additional PowerPoint to teach students in a round table discussion rather than just showing it on the screen at the front of the room.
